Which 2018 Movies will be Worth Seeing?

movie-insider has posted a list of films to be released in 2018. I’m going to comment on the ones that look interesting, much as I did in September, but this time, looking at the entire year ahead. They are in chronological order by release date. Like last time, the films I’ve heard about are mostly sequels, series films, and remakes, with a couple of exceptions. Are there any I’ve missed that you’re looking forward to?

Film Comments
Maze Runner: The Death Cure I’m unlikely to see this in theaters after the last terrible installment, but if it gets great reviews, I might.
Winchester This film, about a giant haunted mansion owned by the heiress of the Winchester Rifle fortune, looks good.
Fifty Shades Freed Another sequel to a bad second film. If it gets great reviews, I may go see it.
Black Panther Another Marvel superhero film. I hadn’t read the book. Update: Review here.
Annihilation Creepy looking science fiction film with Natalie Portman. Looks good. Update: Review here.
Death Wish Remake of a decent Charles Bronson revenge/vigilante flick with Bruce Willis. I’m in.
A Wrinkle in Time I liked the book as a child. The previous adaptation was mediocre. Will wait for the reviews on this one.
Tomb Raider This remake stars Alicia Vikander. Could be good. Will wait on reviews.
Pacific Rim: Uprising I liked the original. May wait on Cinemascore before seeing this sequel in the theater.
Ready Player One This looks like epic Cyberpunk. In.
The New Mutants This X-Man film looks interesting. Update: Release, first delayed to February 2019, now delayed to August 2019.
Rampage Based on the video game, this monster movie stars The Rock. Will wait for reviews.
Avengers: Infinity War This is it. Will it live up to the hype?
Solo: A Star Wars Story In. Here’s hoping it’s as good as Rogue One.
Deadpool 2 In unless I hear it’s bad.
The Incredibles 2 In unless I hear it’s bad.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom In unless I hear it’s bad.
Sicario 2: Soldado If I hear this sequel is better than the original, I might consider seeing it in the theater.
Ant-Man and the Wasp In unless I hear it’s bad.
Mission: Impossible 6 Probably won’t see this unless I hear it’s good.
Teen Titans GO To the Movies This is an animated film. Might see it with the girls.
The Predator Might see this remake if I hear it’s good.
The Equalizer 2 Probably won’t see this unless I hear it’s better than the original.
Scarface Probably won’t see this remake unless I hear it’s really good.
Venom Hell yeah. Please be good.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms If I hear this Disney film is good, I might see it.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix Update: The release date for Dark Phoenix has been moved back to February, 2019. This confirms the idea that this film is at risk of being canned, now that Disney is buying Fox. Fox’s first attempt to make the Phoenix Saga into a film killed the original X-Men franchise, triggering a reboot. Marvel will want to get it right this time.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald I’ll wait for reviews but, if they’re good, I plan to see this.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse I’m not too interested in this animated film about Miles Moralis, the new Spiderman from the comics. If I hear its really good, I may see it.
Mortal Engines This Guillermo De Toro film about mobile cities could be good. It looks epic. I’ll probably see how the reviews are.
Aquaman I’ll wait for reviews. I liked Jason Momoa in Justice League.
Bohemian Rhapsody I’m not much of a fan of bio picks, but might see this if I hear it’s really good.
