The Perils of Fundamentalism

To anyone who believes that written-by-manthe old testament is the literal word of God, I offer a challenge. Can you honestly say the following commandments were not written by men?

  1. Circumcise male children (Gen. 17:12; Lev. 12:3)
  2. Do not intermarry with non Jews (Deut. 7:3)
  3. Keep Canaanite slaves forever (Lev. 25:46)
  4. The Court shall pass sentence of death by burning with fire (Lev. 20:14)
  5. The Court shall pass sentence of death by stoning (Deut. 22:24)
  6. If someone attempts to entice you to idolatry, do not save them from capital punishment by refraining from giving evidence of the their guilt, if you has such evidence (Deut. 13:9)
  7. Slay the inhabitants of a city that has become idolatrous and burn that city (Deut. 13:16-17)
  8. Do not keep alive any individual of the seven Canaanite nations (Deut. 20:16)
  9. Exterminate the seven Canaanite nations from the land of Israel (Deut. 20:17)
  10. Do not offer peace to the Ammonites and the Moabites before waging war on them (Deut. 23:7)
  11. Destroy the descendents of Amalek (Deut. 25:19)
